My client, a leading international concern in the engineering industry, is looking for an experienced Estimator to join their team in Bedfordview.

Ideal start date: as soon as possible

The successful individual will be responsible for preparing all construction deliverables associated with the estimating and tendering process.

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Analyse and interpret tenders for a better understanding, provide best technical and financial solutions
  • Understand the requirements of the terms and conditions, scope of work, associated risks, tender complexity
  • Accurately take off quantities from drawings or any other document provided
  • Obtain programme from planner, evaluate, challenge and adapt cost estimate to programme (link programme to BOQ)
  • Liaise with construction to confirm proper understanding of scope and test cost estimate derived with construction
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for complete installations based on approach selected and any contractual requirements within required time
  • Preparing the BOQs/Pricing Schedules in accordance with the project requirements
  • Preparation and issuing of subcontract enquiries (liaising within the technical/procurement/plant department as required) to ensure accurate costs are received to maximise the opportunity for improved margins
  • Responsible for preparing the cost estimate summary for all disciplines and presenting outcome at bid approval meeting
  • Liaise with commercial specialist to incorporate all commercial qualifications or clarifications and further verifications.
  • Present completed estimate to management for cost review of tender
  • Perform a post submission report, provide lessons learned and compile historical information pertaining to a tender
  • Maintain and update company cost data within the computer estimating system (master file)
  • Keep abreast with statutory requirements (CIDB, MEIBC, SEIFSA etc.)


  • 5-10 years working experience in the engineering industry, preferably with exposure to mechanical, structural and piping environment
  • NQF level 7 qualification
  • Must be computer literate
  • Own reliable vehicle and valid drivers license


  • Must have engineering site experience in power plant or heavy industrial projects or similar
  • Must be able to read and understand mechanical and/or construction designs and assembly drawings (structural or mechanical)
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Experience in CCS (Construction Computer Software) will be advantageous
  • Ability to manage deadlines
